Smile Like a Celebrity: Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

Austin is a celebrity city.  Whether it’s Edward Norton coming to town for Fantastic Fest or The Strokes hanging with the crowd at Austin City Limits, we attract musicians and actors aplenty.  Not to mention all the celebrities which have sprung from the Texas capital city – Michael Dell, Lance Armstrong, Sandra Bullock and Robert Rodriguez, to name a few.

Whether you’re an actor, musician, millionaire or everyday Joe, you want beautiful teeth.  Here are a few procedures you may want to consider to correct some common dental problems.

Teeth Whitening: For Stained Teeth

Most people require some form of teeth whitening over the course of their life.  Whether it’s as minor as a teeth cleaning or as intense as a professional dentist whitening, the most effective teeth whitening technique exists for any dental situation.  While over-the-counter options exist, the most effective options lie with your local Lakeway cosmetic dentist.  A cosmetic dentist can either create a teeth bleaching mold which you may wear whenever your bright smile needs a little brightening.  They may also conduct laser whitening through such procedures as Zoom!® teeth whitening.  Zoom!® teeth whitening involves a direct application of bleach, giving you white teeth in less than an hour.

Invisalign®: For Crooked Teeth

Invisalign® essentially serves as invisible braces.  For anyone with an overbite, underbite or just plain crooked teeth, Invisalign® allows you to straighten your teeth without the added frustration of constant stares at metal wires snaking through the teeth.

Veneers: For Stained, Crooked or Sensitive Teeth

Veneers are masks for the teeth.  If your teeth are unattractive, whether through chipped edges or extreme stains or any number of other issues, veneers cover those problems.

Implant Dentistry: For Missing Teeth

If you’ve lost a tooth, implant dentistry replaces the tooth like new.  Using sedation dentistry to conduct the dental surgery, your local Austin dentist implants a titanium screw into the jawbone, then, after the bone heals, places a crown on top.

To make your smile look like a celebrity’s, you need an extreme makeover dentist.  Dr. Robert D’Alfonso, cosmetic dermatologist of Lakeway, Texas gave Vanessa Joy Humphreys a smile worthy of the People’s Choice Award for the 2010 Miss Austin Pageant.  For all your celebrity smile needs, contact Dr. D’Alfonso.

Meredi is a writer in Austin, TX who cares about her teeth. To ensure your teeth’s beauty and health, talk to Dr. D’Alfonso about a personalized dental plan in Lakeway.

Cosmetic Dentures -Smile with confidence!

Cosmetic Dentures -Smile with confidence!

Losing milk teeth is an exciting rite of passage for every child. Growing up, most of us waited for our milk teeth to fall out. After all, each tooth was a chance to ask the tooth fairy for a wish!!

But if it were to happen to us in our youth, the only wish we would probably make would be a new set of teeth. More often than not, it is the elderly who face this problem. Holding onto youth is human psychology and the same goes for the aged but complete teeth loss drastically changes their appearance. Sagging cheeks and an over bite can add years to a person’s appearance. For them, dentures can be a god sent or shall we say tooth fairy sent!!

Dentures are equally applicable for people who may have lost a couple of their teeth as a result of some periodontal disease or trauma.

What are Dentures?

Cosmetic dentures have been a popular dental practice for many years. Cosmetic Dentures are artificial removable devices constructed to replace missing teeth. They are supported by surrounding soft and hard tissues of the mouth.

Types of Cosmetic Dentures

1.    Complete or full dentures are for patients who are missing all of their teeth in either one of the arches or both.

2.    Removable Partial dentures are for those people who are missing a couple of their teeth or are left with only two on either side of the arch. Removable partial dentures or RPDs are an inexpensive way to make up for teeth loss.

There are different kinds of removable partial dentures or RPDs. There are flippers, Cast Metal, flexible framework and Valplast dentures to name a few.

Benefits of getting cosmetic dentures

Besides restoring the aesthetic value of a person’s face, dentures also have some significant benefits from an orthodontic point of view.

When we loose some of our teeth, the remaining few shift out of normal position and start sagging inwards leading to a misalignment. Wearing dentures prevents this.

Also, teeth provide definition and shape to the cheeks and tooth loss can severely change that. Wearing dentures will help in retaining that shape and prevent you from looking older before time.

Another side effect of tooth loss is ‘bone atrophy’ meaning that the jaw bone starts loosing bone density due to a lack in the supply of essential nutrients in that area.

Who can restore your teeth?

Dental specialists trained in prosthodontics are the best choice for getting this treatment done. Prosthodontics is the arm of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and maintenance of the oral function and appearance of a person.
A prosthodontist is a cosmetic dentist who is trained specifically in the aesthetic and functional restoration and replacement of teeth.

Beautifying Your Smile With Cosmetic Dentistry- Bonding, Veneers And Crowns

Advances in cosmetic dentistry over the past few decades have drastically changed the way in which a dentist can repair and enhance a patient’s crooked, cracked or discolored smile. Tooth-colored materials make today’s cosmetic treatments more durable than in years past. And now with new technology, a dentist can preserve as much of your natural tooth structure as possible.

Dental bonding, veneers and crowns are just three of many other cosmetic procedures available today for beautifying a dull, damaged smile.

Transform Your Smile with Veneers

If you have structural problems with a tooth or problems with multiple teeth, your dentist may recommend porcelain veneers to mask dental flaws and improve the appearance of your smile. Veneers are ultra-thin, translucent laminates of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth, altering their color, size, shape and length.

To apply the veneers, your dentist will remove a very small layer of enamel from the tooth. Once your veneers are designed in a dental lab, your Encino dentist will then bond the veneers to the front of each tooth, eliminating gaps, cracks and stains. In some case, veneers may even be a viable alternative to braces.

Restore Damaged Teeth with Dental Crowns

Dental Crowns, also known as caps, preserve the functionality and restore the appearance of badly damaged, broken or decayed teeth, adding strength and stability. Crowns can also be used to replace a pre-existing crown or hold a bridge in place.

Made of metal, ceramic or porcelain, dental crowns are custom-made to fit your tooth and generally require two visits depending on the extent of your dental damage. First your dentist will prepare your tooth to receive the crown, take an impression of your tooth, and then apply a temporary crown. After your permanent crown has been made, you’ll return to your dentist to have the crown placed over your tooth- restoring its strength, size, color and shape.

Minimally Invasive Dental Bonding

For minor tooth imperfections, dental bonding may be a suitable solution for repairing your small blemishes. Unlike veneers and crowns, which require the customization of tooth coverings, bonding can generally be completed in just one appointment. Additionally, many patients use bonding to fill cavities, a great alternative to unsightly, silver fillings.

The procedure involves applying a tooth-colored resin material to the patient’s affected tooth. The resin is hardened with a special light, which bonds the material to the tooth. Your dentist will then sculpt and polish the tooth to its desired shape and appearance.

Cosmetic dentistry offers a wide variety of options for patients who are dissatisfied with their smiles. Whether you want to correct a small chip or repair several stained or misshapen teeth, your Encino dentist can help you determine the best solution for your specific need.

Dr. Matt Zarinnia is a highly-regarded cosmetic dentist in Encino, California specializing in cosmetic dental procedures such as implants, tooth whitening and orthodontics. Dr. Zarinnia also sees patients in communities surrounding Encino including Tarzana, Sherman Oaks, Reseda and Calabasas. This leading Encino dentist is qualified to handle any dental need in a convenient and comfortable setting.

Cosmetic dentistry can repair a broken smile

A person’s smile can often show signs of wear and ageing due to a number of factors that they encounter on a daily basis. Cosmetic dentistry can offer a solution to many of the harmful effects that impact the appearance and function of the tooth. A smile can be repaired and enhanced through a range of procedures by selecting the most suitable method available.

Teeth may become worn, cracked, or broken through an assortment of extraneous factors. Porcelain veneers are comprised of an ultra-thin layer of tooth-coloured porcelain, customised to fit your individual tooth, these work great for treating worn, cracked, chipped and even crooked teeth. The possibilities of achieving an aesthetically attractive smile that is also functional is certainly achievable. Cosmetic dentistry ensures a number of procedures that can resolve these problems effectively.

Ceramic or porcelain crowns are an excellent option if the tooth is showing wear or weakness. This option either caps or covers the tooth entirely, ensuring the shape, strength, colour, and size of the tooth is optimised. It is a fine example of a procedure that cosmetic dentistry has to offer in order to achieve an attractive and functional result.

In the instance of missing teeth, a bridge is often the most appropriate option in repairing dental function and enhancing the overall appearance of a smile. A bridge works to replace the missing tooth by fastening the bridgework to the teeth either side of the area, restoring the area to optimal condition.

If you want an instant white smile, why not try in chair teeth whitening? Or if you have a busy lifestyle or feel uncomfortable having your teeth whitened at the dentist, there’s also take home teeth whitener available – a customised treatment, which can fit around your lifestyle.

Discover how you can have natural looking teeth by having your smile cosmetically enhanced by your local dentist.

More Reasons To Smile With Cosmetic Dentistry

More Reasons To Smile With Cosmetic Dentistry

A lot of people are now choosing to perk up their smile through cosmetic dentistry. Smile redesign can be done and this is becoming more affordable in the UK to address all cosmetic dental concerns.

Dental fillings are one of the dental procedures that have been given a makeover. Traditionally, amalgam is used in filling cavities in teeth. Dental amalgam is sometimes called silver fillings because of its silvery appearance. It has been used for years to fill cavities caused by tooth decay. Millions of patients have had this procedure and it is a popular filling material because of its ease of application, low cost, and durability. It is composed of a mixture of metals, usually consisting of mercury and a powdered alloy such as silver, tin, zinc, and copper. Elemental mercury is the main component, comprising about fifty percent of the mixture. Due to the metal content, amalgam fillings can endure heavy biting pressure. They are less likely to break than other types of fillings so they are primarily useful for the back teeth.

However, people are slowly veering away from getting amalgam fillings because of health issues. Controversy over its safety became a prominent discussion since high levels of mercury exposure has been associated with adverse effects in the brain and the kidneys. Some people also have an allergy or sensitivity to mercury or to the other metal components of amalgam. Also, when fillings are used in large areas, these can break or leak after several years. In time, the fillings can also become rough and can darken further because of metal tarnish, leaving a more unsightly area on the tooth.

White fillings are now a more popular choice over silver fillings. White fillings look better since they follow the natural shade of the tooth. They restore the natural appearance of the teeth so the white filling is more aesthetic. Teeth restored using these newer fillings are less sensitive to hot and cold compared with teeth filled with amalgam. However, the procedure takes longer to do than traditional silver procedure and the material used is more expensive. A trained dentist should also do the procedure because working with this material requires more skill and practice. Being free from mercury, patients usually choose white over silver fillings.

Another way of creating or restoring beautiful smile is through dental implants. The procedure involves restoring the missing teeth which were lost either through accident or injury or damaged due to severe cavities. The use of cosmetic dental implants is also useful to stabilise any loose dentures. The implants are actually artificial tooth roots often made of titanium, surgically screwed to the jaw bone to attach teeth more securely. The implant serves to support the artificial tooth or groups of teeth to replace the missing ones.

Before placing the implant, the dentist will first assess the gums for any disease or decay. Most often, this involves having dental xray procedures or sometimes even a CT scan to ensure healthy gums that are suitable for implantation. This also provides information as to the bone density and allows the dentist to view proximal anatomic structures that should be avoided, such as nerves. When the implant is placed, the patient is given local anaesthesia to numb the area. A small hole is drilled in the jawbone and this is left to heal for two to six months. During this time, the bone tissue will grow and the titanium implant will be anchored securely. Temporary teeth are mounted during this healing period, although care should be taken to ensure that these are not subjected to considerable pressure or force. When the dental implant is secure, the final permanent artificial teeth are then fitted to it.

If done correctly, the dental implant is indistinguishable from the natural teeth. The result is a fully enhanced smile but also having artificial teeth that function as well as natural teeth.

The popularity of cosmetic dental implants and white fillings are seen in more dental clinics like smile lincs. Having a beautiful smile does not have to be expensive.

Kathryn Dawson writes articles for Smile Lincs, one of the leading dental clinics in the UK focusing on all types of cosmetic dentistry. The expert team at smile lincs offer a wide range of innovative dental treatments including cosmetic dental implants and white fillings uk at affordable prices to patients from all over England. Whatever your problem is, whether it’s gum problems, yellow teeth or crooked teeth, Smile Lincs have a reasonably priced dental solution to help you.

Cosmetic Dental Bonding: A Smile Makeover

Cosmetic Dental Bonding: A Smile Makeover

Your wedding is in two weeks and your budget is getting tight, but you have always wished to have the perfect smile as you and your loved one walk to the center stage. What can you do? Better or worse, because you are in deed the “centerpiece” of the celebration, all cameras will relentlessly zoom in and reveal your front teeth as you smile. If you are not happy with your front teeth, your cosmetic dentist can help you to improve them, instantly. The “smile-makeover,” a dental bonding service, can:

* cover your discolored teeth,
* lineup your crooked teeth,
* repair your chipped teeth,
* fill the gap between your teeth, abd
* glamorize your smile.

What is dental bonding?

This is a procedure that utilizes a composite resin for cosmetic enhancement and restoration of decayed teeth. The composite consists of glass and porcelain particles fused into a liquid plastic and it is matched up accordingly to the color of your teeth. Because the bonded tooth blends well with the surrounding teeth, it will give a more natural look. After the composite is applied and adjusted to the tooth, it is hardened with the use of a high intensity light. It is then buffered and polished to smooth out any rough surfaces.

In what kinds of circumstances can dental bonding be used?

Since bonding is so versatile, it can be used in a wide array of situations. As an alternative to silver amalgam, bonding can be used to fill cavities and repair decayed teeth. Patients can smile confidently with bonding versus with a mouth full of silver fillings. In addition, bonding can replace the void left behind from a chip, crack, or any gap in teeth. If a patient is unsatisfied with the length, color, or shape of their teeth, bonding can be applied to adjust their teeth to a level that will be satisfactory to their desires. All these minor imperfections can be masked with bonding treatment.

What is the fee for the dental bonding?

The total fee for a dental bonding service is based on how many teeth your dentist needs to work on to get your smile perfect. The average bonding fee in Houston is approximately 0 – 0 per tooth. Often, your dentist will recommend a tooth whitening procedure prior to bonding. The fee for the whitening procedure is about 0 – 0.

What are the advantages and disadvantages to bonding?

In comparison to other procedures such as bridges, veneers, or crowns, bonding is very inexpensive and fast. All the work is done in the dental office and usually takes a short period of time to complete. Whereas, the other procedures may take multiple visits to the office and require the assistance of a laboratory to produce the teeth coverings, which usually takes at least a week to fabricate. Thus, there is a delay in the time of completion. Also, since bonding does not involve any surgery or drilling, it is practically pain free and no anesthesia is needed in most cases. One of the great things about bonding though is how natural it looks and feels.

Although bonding improves your smile significantly, it is only considered as a temporary replacement. It is not nearly as durable and strong as bridges, veneers, crowns, and other forms of fillings. The composite of bonding is more susceptible to chip, break, or stain, which would result in additional treatment. Even though bonding provides a quick and inexpensive alternative, it could possibly end up being more costly in the long run, if more and more work is required and continues to be problematic.
