Dental Implants- Smile With Confidence And Preserve Your Natural Teeth

Have you lost a tooth or known someone who has? Tooth loss is common, and losing a tooth can often take a negative role on an individual’s self-esteem as well as the structure of your smile. By replacing missing tooth roots, implants offer more than just an esthetic enhancement. They also provide you with the strength and durability to eat all of the foods that you love, without having to struggle to chew.

There are a number of restorative options for your teeth, but none have proven to be as functionally effective, natural looking and durable as implants. In many cases, dental implants may be one of the only logical choices for the restoration of all necessary functionality of your teeth and the supporting structures. Dental implants are used to replace your missing teeth, but also to help stop or prevent jaw bone loss.

Tooth Loss

Losing your teeth can be caused by a wide array of factors, including:

* Tooth decay

* Root canal failure

* Gum disease

* Trauma to the mouth

* Excessive wear and tear

When you lose a tooth, it may make you feel too self-conscious to talk or smile around other people. In addition to the loss of self-esteem, biting irregularities that are caused by tooth loss can have a negative effect on eating habits. With a negative effect on your eating habits, this can result in secondary health problems such as malnutrition. Regardless of the nature of your problems associated with tooth loss, dental implants can provide a simple remedy with proven results.

Dental Implants Procedure

Based on the condition of your oral tissues, oral hygiene and personal habits, your dentist will advise you on the most appropriate dental treatment plan for your missing teeth. If you have insufficient bone or gum tissue, bone or soft tissue grafts may be needed, or the use of mini implants.

Once your teeth and bone density have been assessed, the plan of treatment will be explained and created. Since the implant will be functioning as the root of your tooth, the implant is surgically placed into your jawbone. As soon as the implant is securely placed into your jawbone, a protective screw cover or cap is placed over the implant. The gum tissue is then sutured over the top of the implant.

Your implant is then left to heal for approximately six months. This healing process is called osseointegration, which is the process in which the bone tissue around the implant grows onto the microscopic roughened surface of the implant in order for it to effectively become a part of the jawbone and securely hold a restoration in place. Following the healing process, the screw cover is removed and the implant is successfully placed with a crown or denture, leaving you with a natural-looking and fully functional smile.

Dental implants are not for everyone, but proper consultation with your Prior Lake dentist will help determine the most appropriate treatment for your smile restoration. Upon consultation, your dentist will determine if you are in good health and have the proper bone structure and healthy gums that are needed to successfully heal an implant.

Sean Hartmen writes for leading family, cosmetic, sedation and Prior Lake childrens dentist, Dr. Thomas Morgan. Dental Implants Give You A Reason To Smile

Dental Implants Give You A Reason To Smile

Before the development of implants, traditional dentures and bridges were the only solutions available to replacing a missing tooth or multiple teeth. Today, implants – titanium structures that are placed in the area where the tooth is normally occupied by the root – have been designed to mimic the look and feel of natural teeth, allowing you to regain your natural smile.

Tooth loss affects both your appearance and the functionality of your teeth. It is no wonder why so many people are constantly seeking restorative treatments that bring their smile back to life. Today, there is an array of options available, with the most sought after treatment being dental implants. Implants offer a permanent solution to tooth loss, providing maximum strength and stability.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are long-lasting tooth root replacements that are securely placed into the jawbone to replicate the root of a single pre-existing tooth or multiple teeth. They are natural-looking-virtually indistinguishable from other teeth-and provide the same function as your natural tooth root while preventing further decay, dental disease and bone deterioration.

The dental implant procedure is a multi-step process that involves placing metal anchors into the bone of the jaw, allowing the anchor and bone to fuse, placing an extension in the anchor, and fixing a prosthetic tooth, or crown, on the extension.

The Benefits of Restoring your Smile with Implants

Dental implants are an all-around better solution for restoring missing teeth. One of the main advantages of implants is the esthetic implications involved. They look and feel like they are your own, natural teeth. Since implants are surgically placed into the structure of your jaw bone, they prevent the loss of bone and gum recession that often occurs with other tooth restoration procedures.

Additionally, your teeth surrounding the implant do not have to be drilled or altered in order to perform the procedure. More of your natural teeth are left unaltered, which benefits your long-term oral health. The success rate is very high, making dental implants an excellent option for tooth replacement, leaving you with a sense of confidence. No longer will you hide your smile once your implants are in place.

Negative Effect of Tooth Loss

Both functional and aesthetic problems can be a result of tooth loss in adults. As soon as you lose a tooth or teeth, many people will begin to exhibit pain and sensitivity where the tooth is missing. Problems arise almost instantly, including difficulty eating and talking. In time, adjacent teeth may begin to shift towards the gaps that are left in your teeth, which can result in misalignment. This often will lead to bite problems that will need to be corrected with professional orthodontic treatment.

Not everyone is a good candidate for dental implants. Patients must have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant, as well as the commitment to maintaining proper oral hygiene. This includes exceptional oral hygiene and regular visits to your dentist in Orland Park. It is possible to live confidently with dental implants from your Orland Park dentist.

How dental cover can help to protect your smile

How dental cover can help to protect your smile

For many people, a smile is a window on the soul, an expression of inner peace and happiness. Without taking special care of our teeth however, our smile can be ruined, costing thousands of pounds and many painful procedures to fix. While regular care using products like toothpaste, floss and mouthwash is a great way to help keep your smile in great shape on a day to day basis, sometimes more expert dental help is needed to make sure that everything is healthy and in good order. Proper dental cover is a great way to offset the cost and help manage the financial side of protecting your smile.

There are various levels of dental cover available which cover a different range of treatments. While these dental plans often vary significantly form provider to provider, basic plans typically provide cover up to a certain total amount of individual treatments each year, valid against services from NHS dentists. When you receive treatment and make a claim against your policy, you will receive reimbursement of a portion of the cost of the treatment. Over the course of several treatments – multiple examinations or fillings, for example – your dental cover may help you make a substantial saving.

Higher tier plans usually cost more in premiums but result in more money being reimbursed in the event of treatment. They also often provide for a higher level of total cover than basic plans, entitling you to claim for a higher total value of treatments over the course of a year. One of the big advantages of these higher tier plans is that they are intended to allow you to avail of services from private dentists rather than those working for the NHS.

This can be particularly valuable if you live in an area where it is difficult to get an NHS dentist either due to a lack of dental professionals in the region or long waiting lists to get onto the books at a practice. Private dental care tends to be expensive and having the proper level of dental care plan can go a long way to making it more affordable.

Some plans also make allowances for more serious oral health issues including hospital treatments for severe dental emergencies or accidental dental injury cover when abroad. In general, the higher the general level of cover, the higher your entitlement for these circumstances will be. In some cases, extremely serious problems like oral cancer may be covered, entitling you to a one-off payment after a minimum qualification period.

There are numerous different levels of dental cover available from many different providers so it is important to make sure to choose the right one for you. Always be sure to read the policy documentation carefully however and be aware of your rights and entitlements before making a final decision on a particular plan to help protect your smile.

Cosmetic Dental Bonding: A Smile Makeover

Cosmetic Dental Bonding: A Smile Makeover

Your wedding is in two weeks and your budget is getting tight, but you have always wished to have the perfect smile as you and your loved one walk to the center stage. What can you do? Better or worse, because you are in deed the “centerpiece” of the celebration, all cameras will relentlessly zoom in and reveal your front teeth as you smile. If you are not happy with your front teeth, your cosmetic dentist can help you to improve them, instantly. The “smile-makeover,” a dental bonding service, can:

* cover your discolored teeth,
* lineup your crooked teeth,
* repair your chipped teeth,
* fill the gap between your teeth, abd
* glamorize your smile.

What is dental bonding?

This is a procedure that utilizes a composite resin for cosmetic enhancement and restoration of decayed teeth. The composite consists of glass and porcelain particles fused into a liquid plastic and it is matched up accordingly to the color of your teeth. Because the bonded tooth blends well with the surrounding teeth, it will give a more natural look. After the composite is applied and adjusted to the tooth, it is hardened with the use of a high intensity light. It is then buffered and polished to smooth out any rough surfaces.

In what kinds of circumstances can dental bonding be used?

Since bonding is so versatile, it can be used in a wide array of situations. As an alternative to silver amalgam, bonding can be used to fill cavities and repair decayed teeth. Patients can smile confidently with bonding versus with a mouth full of silver fillings. In addition, bonding can replace the void left behind from a chip, crack, or any gap in teeth. If a patient is unsatisfied with the length, color, or shape of their teeth, bonding can be applied to adjust their teeth to a level that will be satisfactory to their desires. All these minor imperfections can be masked with bonding treatment.

What is the fee for the dental bonding?

The total fee for a dental bonding service is based on how many teeth your dentist needs to work on to get your smile perfect. The average bonding fee in Houston is approximately 0 – 0 per tooth. Often, your dentist will recommend a tooth whitening procedure prior to bonding. The fee for the whitening procedure is about 0 – 0.

What are the advantages and disadvantages to bonding?

In comparison to other procedures such as bridges, veneers, or crowns, bonding is very inexpensive and fast. All the work is done in the dental office and usually takes a short period of time to complete. Whereas, the other procedures may take multiple visits to the office and require the assistance of a laboratory to produce the teeth coverings, which usually takes at least a week to fabricate. Thus, there is a delay in the time of completion. Also, since bonding does not involve any surgery or drilling, it is practically pain free and no anesthesia is needed in most cases. One of the great things about bonding though is how natural it looks and feels.

Although bonding improves your smile significantly, it is only considered as a temporary replacement. It is not nearly as durable and strong as bridges, veneers, crowns, and other forms of fillings. The composite of bonding is more susceptible to chip, break, or stain, which would result in additional treatment. Even though bonding provides a quick and inexpensive alternative, it could possibly end up being more costly in the long run, if more and more work is required and continues to be problematic.

Dental Veneers Create A Glamorous Smile

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Dental Veneers Create A Glamorous Smile

Is your smile less than perfect in your eyes? Do you wish you could rejuvenate your smile without waiting months, even years for results? You are in luck. With dental veneers, you are able to brighten up your smile and mask imperfections. In many cases, veneers are an excellent alternative to crowns, providing a much more conservative approach to changing a tooth’s color, size or shape. Gaps between your front teeth or teeth that are chipped or worn can also benefit from veneers.

Definition and Uses

Dental veneers are used to create bright, white smiles and beautifully aligned, shapely teeth through thin laminates. They also protect the surface of your damaged teeth and can even eliminate the need for extensive treatments later on in life. Veneers are a form of cosmetic dentistry and are placed over the facial surfaces of your teeth to correct an array of problems, including:

• Worn enamel

• Wear and tear

• Genetics

• Uneven teeth

The two most common materials used to create veneers are porcelain and composite resin. Porcelain veneers are used more often and are more appropriate for severe cases involving dullness, wear, discoloration, extensive chipping, cracking, spacing or uneven teeth. Composite resin veneers are an effective and minimally invasive way to restore and correct small chips, cracks and discoloration in the teeth.

Treatment Planning

To determine if you are a candidate for dental veneers, your dentist in Amherst will schedule a preliminary consultation during which your oral health will be evaluated and treatment options discussed. If you are to receive veneers that require tooth preparation, it is irreversible, making it important to discuss all alternatives before deciding on veneers. If you and your dentist decide that veneers are the best option for your smile, the next step will involve a thorough review of the treatment, including the preparation of your teeth for your procedure and what is necessary for your veneers to look and fit correctly.

You are encouraged to participate actively in the design of your smile during the veneers planning process. By sharing your preferences for the shape, length, width and color of your veneers you will help to ensure that your treatment will meet your specific expectations.

The Process

The veneer process generally takes several visits to complete the entire procedure: diagnosis and treatment planning, preparation, and bonding. To prepare your teeth for your veneers, your teeth are lightly buffed to allow for the small added thickness of the veneer. Typically, about half a millimeter of your tooth will be removed.

An impression of your teeth is taken and sent to a dental lab where your veneers are custom fabricated. At your next dental visit, your dentist will attach the veneers to your teeth with a special adhesive to keep them in place permanently. During a two-week period of adjustment that follows your procedure, you may notice a slight change in the size and shape of your teeth.

Veneers are not for everyone, requiring proper consultation with your dentist. Upon review and diagnosis, your Amherst dentist will assess and develop a proper treatment plan for enhancing the appearance of your smile.

Sean Hartmen writes for premier Amherst dentist, Dr. Robert LaCarruba. A native of Long Island, New York, Dr. LaCarruba received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine in 1996.
