how to improve your smile

We are now living in an image-conscious society, where the role of dentistry is wider than before. People understand the need for and benefits of good oral hygiene routines. They also know that you don’t have to be born with a beautiful smile to have one. Flexible payment options also mean that cost may no longer be prohibitive.

At aesthetics we offer the full range of dental treatments to transform your smile to be healthier, and more aesthetically pleasing.

We ensure every patient receives a thorough consultation prior to any treatment and actively chooses which areas they would like to address.

Here are some of the common problems and treatments which you may experience. We will be happy to discuss your own initial requirements face to face.

fillings

Traditionally many of us were given amalgam fillings which are dark and can be unsightly. They also contain mercury (silver chemical element) which has been proven to have side effects. They can easily be replaced with tooth coloured fillings. These are made from a resin – based (compound made of smaller particles) material, and can be moulded to the exact shape of the tooth, and the colour matched to your teeth.

gaps

Gaps in your mouth can make eating and speaking difficult and look unsightly. There are a number of options available to restore the gap – we can provide fixed replacements which look natural and are long-lasting.

A very popular method is to cap the two teeth on either side of the gap and have a false tooth in the middle, known as a bridge. This is permanently fixed in your mouth and with modern materials is almost impossible to tell the difference between the caps and normal teeth.

Another option is an implant, which is an artificial whole tooth, consisting of a root and a natural looking replacement tooth. This is placed in the gap where the tooth is missing and will give a very natural result.

With both of these options, you will be able to eat and speak as normal. With maintenance these restorations will last a number of years.

discoloured teeth

If you are unhappy with the colour of your teeth, then teeth whitening is the easiest way to improve their colour. A brighter smile gives a more youthful appearance and makes your teeth appear more healthy.

With our aesthetics Professional Teeth Whitening we use a 2 stage process. The first stage involves a home whitening course for 2 weeks and this is followed by a power whitening session in the treatment room.

veneers

Crooked or twisted teeth can often look unsightly and are difficult to clean. This problem can be solved quite easily by having veneers made. Veneers are hand crafted ultra – thin individual coverings made by a skilled technician. Once bonded to the tooth, the veneer becomes strong, natural looking and is long lasting.

This will give the benefit of making your teeth straight and easier to clean, as well as improving the overall appearance.

They normally take two visits to complete. At the initial visit the teeth are minimally prepared and impressions are taken and temporary veneers are made. The veneer would normally cover the front of the tooth; the rest of the tooth is left untouched. On the second visit the permanent veneers are fitted and you can fully enjoy your new smile.

A smile makeover is possible with veneers and would require anything from six to ten veneers.

crowns

Severely broken down teeth can be built up with metal – free crowns making it hard to tell they are artificial. Like veneers these will take 2 visits and the same basic procedure is followed. Crowns however cover the whole of the tooth and strengthen it.

Unlike normal crowns these have no metal on the inside, which creates a much better natural looking appearance.

cosmetic bonding

Chips or cracks in your teeth can be treated with cosmetic bonding. Tooth-coloured (the colour is matched to your own teeth) material is placed on the tooth, so allowing us to change the shape of the tooth without any drilling.

Invisalign – invisible braces

Braces no longer need to be metal and visible, which has stopped many adults taking this option. Clear appliances are available to straighten your teeth.

With Invisalign we use a series of invisible, removable and comfortable aligners that no can tell that you are wearing. These are changed periodically as the teeth are moved. The average timescale required to complete this course of treatment is from six months to 18 months.

Inman Aligner

Inman Aligner is a brace with working parts that remain largely out of sight and in most cases can straighten teeth in 6 weeks, and at a fraction of the cost of traditional treatment. It is barely visible, apart from a single clear wire, and it can easily be slipped in and out of the mouth, allowing the wearer to go bracefree for important occasions such as job interviews or weddings.

Many individuals are very conscious of their teeth because it’s also a form of beauty. They spend a lot of money just to make their teeth become whiter and stronger. Cosmetic dentistry helps them to put some accessories or cosmetics like braces, porcelain veneers’, crown and even tooth bleaching to improve the appearance of the client’s teeth.

Dentistry develops different kinds of cosmetics for teeth to help the client’s teeth restore from tooth or gum diseases. They develop the various procedures for whitening, cleaning, accessories like dental implants, veneers, dental bridges which use to fuse between two porcelain crowns to fill in the area left by missing teeth. Dentists also use gold, amalgam or a mixture of mercury with at least one other metal and it is use commonly in making dental implants and other accessories because it is low cost than other metals use in dental cosmetics.

Cosmetic Dentistry is in demand now; many dentist are planning to put up a business in dental cosmetics, but before they allowed by the association of dentistry to practice that field, they will formally trained by the Dental association with a minimum of 2-3 years full time education and they also undergo to board certification. Only the prosthodontics and orthodontics are allowed specialist to practice the dental cosmetics because they had a specialization training and certification to practice dental cosmetics. Nowadays, every individual is saving their money or income for their beautiful smile, students are saving their allowance to accommodate the dental cosmetics and even the newly graduates looking for work also spend money in order to get whiter teeth and a beautiful smile to become presentable on their work.

Other people said, “if you want beauty you will spend a lot of money, but if you don’t have money you must take care of what you have, and take care of your teeth and put on your smile even if you don’t have braces, porcelain, bridges or other dental cosmetics.”

Bonding, Veneers And Crowns- 3 Ways Your Lone Tree Dentist Can Improve Your Smile

Bonding, Veneers And Crowns- 3 Ways Your Lone Tree Dentist Can Improve Your Smile

Cosmetic dentistry can be performed for various reasons- to correct misshaped, discolored or cracked teeth; to repair crooked teeth or a misaligned bite; to treat an injury; or to simply improve your overall appearance. It’s one of the fastest growing areas of dentistry today- allowing dentists to repair a patient’s smile in just a few appointments. Talk to your Lone Tree dentist about the best options for your smile.

There are many dental options available to help enhance your smile, repair dental flaws and improve your oral health. Here are just three common procedures that do just that.

Veneers: A Complete Smile Makeover

Veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry option performed by dentists to enhance and repair stained, chipped or misshaped teeth. Also known as laminates, veneers are made from thin, custom-made composite or porcelain shells. They are extremely durable and closely resemble your natural teeth.

Once your veneers are fabricated in the dental lab, incorporating the desired changes in color and shape, your dentist will apply the veneers to the front side of your teeth to mask any dental flaws. Application generally requires three dental visits, but porcelain veneers last longer than any other materials used in cosmetic dentistry, so you won’t need to replace them as often.

Dental Bonding for Small Dental Repairs

For minor dental damage, such as chips or gaps, dental bonding may be a good option for achieving your desired smile. Also known as composite bonding, this procedure involves applying a tooth-colored resin material to the affected teeth. Once applied, your dentist will shape, harden and polish the tooth to match your other teeth. A benefit of bonding is that the natural structure of the tooth can be maintained.

Bonding is less expensive than most other cosmetic treatments, but is more susceptible to staining and doesn’t last as long. For small repairs, however, it can be a perfect option. Bonding is a minimally-invasive procedure, involving little preparation and typically requiring just one appointment. For more extensive repairs and severe dental damage, crowns and veneers may be more suitable.

Rejuvenate Damaged Teeth with Durable Crowns

When your teeth are badly damaged or decayed, crowns may be the best option to restore and strengthen the weak tooth. They cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped and restore a tooth to its normal color, shape and size. Made of metal, ceramic or porcelain fused with metal, crowns strengthen the tooth and save teeth that may have otherwise been extracted.

Crowns can also be used to protect a weak tooth from breaking, to restore a tooth that’s already broken, or to fill the gap left by tooth extraction. During the procedure, the teeth are first prepared by your dentist to receive the dental crown and a temporary shell is put into place. A mold is sent to a dental lab where your permanent crown is made, and once created, can be cemented onto your tooth.

With so many cosmetic dentistry solutions to choose from, you can look good and have a healthy smile. If you’re unsatisfied with the appearance of your teeth, talk to your Lone Tree dentist about your options. Your dentist can work with you to create a treatment plan based on your needs, goal and budget. In just a few appointments, you’ll have an improved smile- and that translates to a more confident you.

Improve Your Smile and Change Your Life With Cosmetic Dentistry

If you have gotten to the point where you find it difficult to open your mouth in public due to embarrassment over how your teeth look, it may be time for you to visit a cosmetic dentist. These dentists have completed several additional years of training and are experts at several different methods used in smile makeovers.

Cosmetic dentistry enables the patient and the dentist to work together to create a winning smile, along with a healthy mouth. You will have an active role in the way that your teeth will look by working closely with a cosmetic dentist. For example, you will be able to choose the exact shade you want your teeth to be, and with some procedures, you will be able to choose the exact size of replacement teeth.

For individuals who just want to get their teeth whitened, you will have more options by going to a cosmetic dentist. Patients are often surprised to learn just how many shades of white there are when it comes to teeth, and cosmetic dentistry will allow you to choose the shade that will go best with your complexion.

Some individuals consider cosmetic dentistry when they have chipped or cracked teeth. A cosmetic dentist can explain your options to you and work closely with you to achieve the smile of your dreams. One of the advantages of cosmetic dentistry is that you can view your options via a computer so that you can see exactly what your smile will look like when the desired results are achieved. In some cases, you may have several options, and it is helpful to see how each option will look before you make a final decision.

Regardless of how unattractive your smile may look right now, realize that a cosmetic dentist has the expertise to transform your smile, which can change your entire life. Instead of hiding at home or being afraid to speak up in public, you will be able to smile and interact with others with confidence.

The best part about opting for cosmetic dentistry is that there may be several options available to you. Depending on the exact problems you are experiencing with your smile, most of the time, there are several options, and you can choose the one that will best suit your needs. Whether you need to get your teeth whitened or consider porcelain veneers, or some other type of restorative dentistry, a cosmetic dentist will be able to provide you with the answers you seek.

Take the first step to change your life forever by contacting a cosmetic dentist in your area. He or she will be happy to provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision about the options presented to you.

An Innovative Solution To Improve Gummy Smiles By Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist

An Innovative Solution To Improve Gummy Smiles By Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist

Beverly Hills, CA, June 2010 –Smiling is something we do every day, but seldom think about. It is an important and powerful part of communication – a universal sign of happiness. But for many people with a “gummy smile” – a high lip line in which an excessive amount of gum tissue above the teeth is shown – smiling can be a source of anxiety or even shame. Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist and periodontist Dr. Alex Farnoosh developed aninnovative solution to correct a high lip line and restore confidence to his patients.

“Most people who seek my lip lowering procedure are apprehensive, hopeless and scared, because they either think there is no solution or they have been told and read about the very invasive jaw surgery to correct their gummy smile,” says Dr. Farnoosh. “It is my goal to instill confidence in every patient, and my results speak for themselves time and time again.”

Before and after images of actual patients.

For many tormented by a “gummy smile”, a solution seems too good to be true. Sometimes, before and after photos simply aren’t enough and questions remain. Below are three actual unsolicited testimonials from Dr. Farnoosh’s patients who underwent treatment in 2009:

“I always hated my gummy smile, but now I smile confidently and I cannot be happier! I had the lip lowering procedure done.  It has been about 15 weeks since my surgery, and I can still feel a tiny bit of tightness. The healing process takes time but is not painful or bothersome. Very few people even noticed I had the surgery. There was no major discomfort and I could do all of my daily functions after surgery. This is especially important because I was able to keep the surgery a secret. I highly recommend the surgery to anyone seeking a solution to a ‘gummy smile.”

“Before I had the surgery, I was concerned that my upper lip would look longer or my face would look different but the surgery had no negative effects on the appearance of my face or my upper lip. In fact, my upper lip looks fuller, nicer and shows less gum after surgery. I love my smile now and I wish I had the procedure done earlier.”

“I came from Ireland to have the lip lowering done because I suffered for almost 20 years and I was afraid of having jaw surgery to correct my “gummy smile.” I hated my gummy smile. I flew to LA and had a consultation to have lip lowering done on a Thursday afternoon and had the surgery done on a Friday morning and went back to Ireland on Monday. It is the best thing I have ever, ever done! It is like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I am so glad that there is someone of your skill helping people. It has not only changed my life but also everything around me in a small way as I feel more content. My parents are just so happy for me.”

If you or someone you know is seeking treatment for a high lip line, Dr. Farnoosh offers individualized procedures to meet the unique needs of every person and achieve the perfect smile. Please visit www.thetotalsmile.com for more information or to request a consultation.

Resolve To Improve Your Smile This New Year With Cosmetic Dentistry

Resolve To Improve Your Smile This New Year With Cosmetic Dentistry

Every year people make resolutions to get healthy. This may include kicking a bad habit, finally starting that exercise program or eating better. Improving your health and well being is a common resolution many of us make as we look forward to a fresh new year. When compiling your own list of resolutions for the New Year, don’t forget to keep your dental health in mind, too.

Repairing a damaged or dull smile is easy with modern dentistry. Referred to as cosmetic dentistry, there are numerous smile-enhancing dental treatments available to turn even the most damaged teeth into a bright, beautiful smile. From teeth whitening procedures to veneers and tissue lifting, your Tiverton dentist can help you easily step into the New Year with a more confident, stunning smile.

A Brighter Smile with Professional Teeth Bleaching

It’s not uncommon for years of drinking tea and coffee or bad habits like, smoking to gradually result in a discolored smile. With teeth whitening, eliminating stains and enhancing your natural white can produce dramatic results in as little as an hour. In-office teeth bleaching performed by a professional dentist involves applying a bleaching gel to the teeth and activating the whitening solution with special lighting for approximately 30 minutes. Once the bleaching gel has penetrated the stains, it is rinsed off. Your dentist will provide you with trays, custom designed to perfectly fit your teeth so that you can continue the bleaching process at home with a less powerful gel. By using the gel and the trays on a regular basis, you can touch up and continue the bleaching process. Or, if some years later you notice your teeth shade fading, you can use the trays and gel to bleach again, without having to go through the in-office procedure.

The Total Smile Makeover with Veneers

If your teeth are cracked, stained, uneven or chipped, veneers may be the perfect option for transforming the most damaged smile. These thin, porcelain shells are custom-designed by your dentist to perfectly cover and match your natural smile to mask most any dental blemish, including stains and cracks. In some cases, veneers are even a viable alternative to braces. Compared to many treatment options, veneers will last a long time, up to 20 years, and correct the alignment of your smile by covering damaged or misshapen teeth.

Eliminate Excessive Gums with Tissue Lifts

A common complaint among patients is an excessive amount of gum tissue that is exhibited when they smile. For those who consider this unaesthetic, a tissue lift can be performed by your Tiverton dentist. In most cases, the excessive amount of gum tissue is present because either the tooth never fully erupted from under the gums or the gum tissue has crept down along the tooth. In either case, the tooth usually appears too short and wide while the gum tissue appears to be excessive. By cosmetically re-contouring the gum tissue, teeth can be uncovered so that the smile reveals the appropriate amount of tooth and gum tissue for a patient’s unique smile.

This new year, resolve to get a healthy, more confident smile. Talk to your Tiverton dentist about cosmetic dentistry, your goals for treatment, and which options may be best for your teeth. In as little as one appointment, you’ll be smiling brighter.

Sean Hartmen writes for Dr. Michael Katz, an experienced dentist in Westport. With over 30 years of experience in all areas of dentistry, this Westport, Tiverton and Little Compton family dentist is highly qualified to meet the dental needs for patients of every age.

Purchasing Economical Teeth Whitening Products In Order To Improve Your Smile

By: jessy ryder

Buying teeth whitening products from your local pharmacy is an economical and time saving alternative to costly teeth whitening procedures. If you are too busy or have financial constraints, over the counter teeth whitening products is a good option. Most teeth whitening products are available at your local pharmacy but you do need to have a prescription in order to buy one. For this, you may need to go your dentist at least once.

Here are some of the teeth whitening products that you can buy:

*Teeth whitening toothpaste will gradually whiten your teeth. If you are smoker, the toothpaste will work slowly in removing the stains caused by nicotine.

*Teeth whitening applicators are moldings in the shape of your teeth, which cleanse your teeth with whitening chemicals. Non-molding based teeth whitening applicators are less costly but are not as effective as the molding based teeth applicators.

*Teeth whitening gel is used the same way you would use teeth whitening toothpaste but the gel is far more result yielding. An applicator is used to apply the gel to your teeth, similar to a toothbrush. The gel applicator is specially made for the gel.

*Whitening strips are are used twice a day. When used regularly over a period of time, whitening strips will whiten your teeth. The whitening chemicals are placed on the strips and the strips are applied to the teeth for about half an hour in a day.

Certainly, teeth whitening kits purchased from the local pharmacy are not as effective and result yielding as the bleaching based teeth whitening procedure. A dentist will have advanced tools and equipment for certain kinds of teeth, which yield better and instantaneous results. However, if you are after an economical way to whiten your teeth, teeth whitening products will do the job for you, albeit gradually.

Smile Makeover Can Improve Your Crooked Teeth and Confidence

Smile Makeover Can Improve Your Crooked Teeth and Confidence

Modern day cosmetic dentistry can improve your smile in ways never even thought of even in as little as ten or twenty years ago.  Today’s popular cosmetic dentistry techniques such as veneers, implants, and teeth whitening can help you have a smile that you can show-off to the world and be proud to call your own.

Where the science of dentistry of the past was all about helping to relieve dental pain and other physical ailments, today’s dentistry has moved into the arena of improving both dental health and the overall look of one’s teeth and smile.

Because your teeth are some of the first things people notice when they meet you, people with dental issues often feel self-conscious about their smile.  This self-consciousness often leads to a lack of self-esteem and self-confidence.  Thankfully, with today’s modern cosmetic dentistry techniques, anyone interested in improving their teeth and smile can do so with some amazing results by having a smile makeover performed on them.   The best news is that with today’s smile makeovers you can have the smile you always dreamed of with much less time commitment and virtually no pain.

A Brief History of Dental Science

Since its inception as an organized form of medicine, dentistry has gone through some major changes.  Even within as little time as the last century dentistry has moved from being a fairly barbaric way of dealing with dental ills, into a more patient-centered specialty focused on both oral health and the look of one’s teeth.

According to the American Association of Cosmetic Dentists, the growth of cosmetic dentistry procedures between 1996 and 2000 was an amazing 300 percent.  From this statistic alone, it is clear to see that as time passes and dental procedures improve, more and more people are looking to cosmetic dentistry as a way of improving their oral health and the look of their teeth and smile.

Cosmetic Dentistry Techniques of the Twenty-first Century

There are now many affordable cosmetic dentistry techniques, which can be used to improve the looks of your teeth.  Today’s patient-focused techniques offer you great results for an affordable price with quick results and very little pain, if any.  In addition, many of today’s techniques are designed to improve the oral health and smile of adults rather than those of children, as was the focus of the industry in the recent past.

Some of the most popular cosmetic dentistry techniques performed today include:

Teeth Whitening “Zoom”

Teeth whitening products have come to a point where your dentist can whiten your teeth in their office in as little as one hour.  The teeth-whitening product named “Zoom” allows your dentist to whiten your teeth up to eight shades lighter in a single hour.  Zoom also offers a “take-home” option where you can do your own teeth whitening at home.  With this at-home option, you can see results of up to six shades lighter in as little as three days.

In addition to “Zoom,” there are many other teeth whitening products on the market, which are also very effective.  Some people simply need to use specially designed toothpaste for a whiter smile, while others who require more whitening action choose options such as Crest Whitestrips, which are applied to the teeth and allowed the time to bleach out stains and discolorations.

For dental office teeth whitening, many people choose to have their teeth painted with a solution of peroxide and then hit it with the beam of a laser to remove discolorations.  This option remains the leading choice among dentists today.

Lumineers Teeth Veneers

Lumineers are porcelain veneers, which are as thin as a contact lens and can be applied to your teeth without any drilling or filing of your teeth.  Lumineers veneers can cover up chipped, stained, discolored, or even in some instances misaligned teeth.   The best part is that they are completely painless to install and have been proven to last for over twenty years.  With as little as two or three visits to your dentist, an application of Lumineers veneers can have your smile completely transformed.

Tooth Implants

One of the best recent advancements in cosmetic dentistry has to be the invention of implants.  Tooth implants are essentially false teeth which are permanently installed into your jaw bone to replace lost, decayed, or crooked teeth.  Implants are a permanent solution to replacing teeth, and once installed feel exactly like your natural teeth.  Implants are a wonderful alternative to traditional dental bridges or false teeth; they look better and are much easier to care for as well.

Invisalign

In addition to the other products on the market, Invisalign has been the biggest advancement in crooked teeth straightening technology.  Invisalign are custom fitted plastic trays, which can be worn on the teeth in the place of traditional braces to straighten teeth.  Invisalign is perfect for adults looking to have straighter teeth and a better smile without all of the metal of traditional braces.

Impacts of Bad Oral Health and Bad Teeth

Many of the cosmetic dentistry techniques and products on the market today have been developed to assist adults in obtaining a smile they can be proud to show-off to the world.  The reason for this surge in product development for adults is the negative effects that bad oral health can have on one’s social and professional life.  Cosmetic dentists today are offering smile makeovers to their patients to improve the look of their teeth as well as to boost confidence levels of those with previously bad smiles.

In 2004, an independent study was conducted on behalf of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and it showed that 99.7 percent of all Americans believe that a smile is an important social asset.  In addition, 96 percent of adults believe an attractive smile makes a person more appealing to members of the opposite sex. And finally, the study showed that 74 percent of adults feel an unattractive smile can hurt a person’s chances for career success.

Looking at the statistics above it is easy to see why there has been such a boom in the cosmetic dentistry market.  If you have ever seen someone attractive from across the room and then they smiled at you and their teeth looked less than great because of discoloration or misalignment, you can easily understand how important your smile is for first impressions.  And, you can also understand why someone who is attractive in ways other than their teeth would welcome a smile makeover to improve their first impressions as well.

Final Thoughts

Cosmetic dentistry today aims to help fix issues of the crooked teeth, which can lead to negative effects on one’s personal and professional life.  Because studies have shown that the smile is one of the first things people notice in another person, and because they have shown that a nice smile ranks as very important to people in general, cosmetic dentistry has become a market which is filling the need of all people who once and for all want to get past their oral health hurdles.

A smile makeover, through the use of such technology as teeth whitening products, veneers, teeth implants, and straightening products is causing adults to flock to their dentists in record numbers to attain the smile they have always wished that they were born with.
