how to improve your smile
We are now living in an image-conscious society, where the role of dentistry is wider than before. People understand the need for and benefits of good oral hygiene routines. They also know that you don’t have to be born with a beautiful smile to have one. Flexible payment options also mean that cost may no longer be prohibitive.
At aesthetics we offer the full range of dental treatments to transform your smile to be healthier, and more aesthetically pleasing.
We ensure every patient receives a thorough consultation prior to any treatment and actively chooses which areas they would like to address.
Here are some of the common problems and treatments which you may experience. We will be happy to discuss your own initial requirements face to face.
fillings
Traditionally many of us were given amalgam fillings which are dark and can be unsightly. They also contain mercury (silver chemical element) which has been proven to have side effects. They can easily be replaced with tooth coloured fillings. These are made from a resin – based (compound made of smaller particles) material, and can be moulded to the exact shape of the tooth, and the colour matched to your teeth.
gaps
Gaps in your mouth can make eating and speaking difficult and look unsightly. There are a number of options available to restore the gap – we can provide fixed replacements which look natural and are long-lasting.
A very popular method is to cap the two teeth on either side of the gap and have a false tooth in the middle, known as a bridge. This is permanently fixed in your mouth and with modern materials is almost impossible to tell the difference between the caps and normal teeth.
Another option is an implant, which is an artificial whole tooth, consisting of a root and a natural looking replacement tooth. This is placed in the gap where the tooth is missing and will give a very natural result.
With both of these options, you will be able to eat and speak as normal. With maintenance these restorations will last a number of years.
discoloured teeth
If you are unhappy with the colour of your teeth, then teeth whitening is the easiest way to improve their colour. A brighter smile gives a more youthful appearance and makes your teeth appear more healthy.
With our aesthetics Professional Teeth Whitening we use a 2 stage process. The first stage involves a home whitening course for 2 weeks and this is followed by a power whitening session in the treatment room.
veneers
Crooked or twisted teeth can often look unsightly and are difficult to clean. This problem can be solved quite easily by having veneers made. Veneers are hand crafted ultra – thin individual coverings made by a skilled technician. Once bonded to the tooth, the veneer becomes strong, natural looking and is long lasting.
This will give the benefit of making your teeth straight and easier to clean, as well as improving the overall appearance.
They normally take two visits to complete. At the initial visit the teeth are minimally prepared and impressions are taken and temporary veneers are made. The veneer would normally cover the front of the tooth; the rest of the tooth is left untouched. On the second visit the permanent veneers are fitted and you can fully enjoy your new smile.
A smile makeover is possible with veneers and would require anything from six to ten veneers.
crowns
Severely broken down teeth can be built up with metal – free crowns making it hard to tell they are artificial. Like veneers these will take 2 visits and the same basic procedure is followed. Crowns however cover the whole of the tooth and strengthen it.
Unlike normal crowns these have no metal on the inside, which creates a much better natural looking appearance.
cosmetic bonding
Chips or cracks in your teeth can be treated with cosmetic bonding. Tooth-coloured (the colour is matched to your own teeth) material is placed on the tooth, so allowing us to change the shape of the tooth without any drilling.
Invisalign – invisible braces
Braces no longer need to be metal and visible, which has stopped many adults taking this option. Clear appliances are available to straighten your teeth.
With Invisalign we use a series of invisible, removable and comfortable aligners that no can tell that you are wearing. These are changed periodically as the teeth are moved. The average timescale required to complete this course of treatment is from six months to 18 months.
Inman Aligner
Inman Aligner is a brace with working parts that remain largely out of sight and in most cases can straighten teeth in 6 weeks, and at a fraction of the cost of traditional treatment. It is barely visible, apart from a single clear wire, and it can easily be slipped in and out of the mouth, allowing the wearer to go bracefree for important occasions such as job interviews or weddings.
